Roann Liew

b. 1984 Roann Xiao Yun Liew is a Malaysian Canadian who left the world of science for the lure of plein air painting. Born in Kuala Lumpur, she grew up in Hong Kong, BC Canada and the US. In 2009 she moved to Danba, Sichuan China, where she currently resides. Whether it is depicting the deserts four seasons or the lively Figures at Play series, her paintings are uniquely her own; with free and open brush strokes, they are energetic expressions in a signature palette. Her latest works are abstractions; abandoning to the play of color, design, and emotional value. Liew's influences include the Russian impressionists, abstract expressionists the likes of Willem De Kooning, and the people she meet from all walks of life.
