b. 1984 Roann Liew 劉小荺 is an artist who left the world of science for the lure of plein air painting. Born in Kuala Lumpur, she has since resided in Hong Kong, Canada and the US. In 2009 she moved to Danba, in the Garzê Tibetan Autonomous Region, to research the relationship of brushstrokes in Western expressionism, Chinese Calligraphy, and the Tibetan Thangka. She can be found either painting in her studio, sketching the commoner and the ascetic, or conversing fluently in Gyarong Tibetan with the locals.
